Meta description in search

Meta description is a key text that serves search engines to know what the page is about and thus rank the page among other parameters that count in a very complicated algorithm. When a meta description is said, in this text for the sake of simplicity it refers to both the meta title and the meta description.

In order for the site to be well prepared for the search, the meta description needs to be written according to certain rules. The description must contain a specific number of characters, it must include key phrases in the description, it must give good information to the reader about what is on a particular page, etc. And therefore those who operate websites have the tools to define it.

When the meta description is made, the page is indexed and then after a while Google and other search engines recognize the page and begin to display it according to the keywords and content. However, sometimes it may happen that Google, which is the most used search engine, simply does not display the meta description exactly as defined. Also, if a part of the text in the description is changed, Google can simply ignore this change and not take it into account, but displays the page according to some of its rules. And now the question is, why does Google not want to take these changes into account?

First let's say if that happens, you can't do anything. There is no way to force Google to accept the change if Google has already decided. But for the above there is a logical explanation that hides in several reasons:

  1. The meta description is not relevant for the said page or publication. When Google recognizes that the meta description is not related to the content of the site, then it does not want to accept the change. Also if the meta description is, say, made up of key phrases, Google will recognize it. Although it is a Croatian language, Google very well recognizes whether a sentence is written correctly or not.
  2. When the specified meta description is used on a number of other pages. In this case, Google itself has a problem recognizing the description and therefore does not want to accept the changes.
  3. The meta description contains words that are not searched and the text contains them. Then Google recognizes that the meta description is poorly written.
