It can be exactly the same content or partially similar content that is so similar that it is considered a copy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Is there a penalty for duplicated content in SEO?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google has confirmed that there is no penalty for duplicated content. He further explained that <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/help\/crawling-index-faq#duplicate-content\" rel=\"noopener\">duplicated content<\/a> does not violate its Google Search Essentials guidelines or spam policy. In fact, Google expects pages to contain a certain amount of duplicate content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, this only applies to pages that inadvertently create duplicate content or to pages that distribute (syndicate) their content across multiple sites. Pages that post thin content and doorway pages can be fined for violating Google's search policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scraped content, i.e. content copied without permission, violates the Google Search Essentials guidelines and may lead to copyright infringement. Pages with a high number of legal requests to remove content can be ranked lower in search results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Causes of Duplicate Content<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cxWo4ttPgAc\" rel=\"noopener\">explained<\/a> that duplicated content can occur when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the same or similar content is published on more than one website<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the same or similar content is published on multiple pages within the same website<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>one content is available via multiple URLs on the same website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Same or similar content published on multiple websites<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This type of duplicate content may arise with or without the knowledge and permission of the original publisher. It is very common in syndicated content and press releases that are published and republished on multiple websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can also happen without the permission of the publisher, for example when another blogger copies the content and posts it on their site. Google considers both content duplicates, even if there are minor differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Same or similar content published on multiple pages of the same website<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This type of duplication occurs when a blogger posts the same or very similar content as separate posts. Usually, both pages will rank for the same or very similar keywords. In many cases, the author may not even be aware that it is duplicated content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Single content available via multiple URLs on the same website<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most websites can be accessed via multiple URLs. For example, the following URLs usually lead to the same location:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>yourdomain.com<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>www.yourdomain.com<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>https:\/\/yourdomain.com<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>https:\/\/www.yourdomain.com<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some pages also have separate mobile or print-friendly versions, which have their own URLs. Some URLs may also contain parameters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google recognizes all of them as separate websites because they can technically contain different content. But if they contain the same content, then they become duplicate pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Google handles duplicate content<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/blog\/2008\/09\/demystifying-duplicate-content-penalty\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> group duplicate pages into a single unit (cluster). In other words, it combines them and treats them as one content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It then analyzes duplicated content and selects a URL that represents the entire cluster. The selected URL is called a canonical URL and will be displayed in the search results. Google also transfers the popularity of links and the value of links (link equity) to the canonical URL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is not considered duplicate content<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google is clear. <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/blog\/2006\/12\/deftly-dealing-with-duplicate-content\" rel=\"noopener\">cited<\/a> what is considered and what is not considered duplicate content. In particular, it confirmed that localized websites and content containing quotes from other sources are not duplicated content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Localized websites<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A localized website is a page that contains content already published in another language. For example, if you have an article called \u2018Introduction to Yoga\u2019, you can republish the same content on another page or website if it has been translated into another language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Clips and quotes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google states that you may quote content from other websites, provided that you include your own original content in addition to the quote. Your content should be unique and useful, not slim content or minimal modification of the copied text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why is duplicate content bad for SEO?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duplicate content can cause a number of problems on affected pages and in search results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Reduces the popularity of links and PageRank<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duplicate content can dilute the popularity of links and PageRank. Instead of 100 links leading to a single page, 10 links can lead to 10 duplicate pages, thus dividing the value between them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. May cause unnecessary waste of resources<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google treats different URLs as separate pages. Although it has duplicate recognition systems, some URLs do not give a clear signal that they lead to the same content. In such cases, Google can index the same content through multiple URLs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can unnecessarily waste server bandwidth and resources and speed up your crawl budget spending. When this happens, Google may not index the other pages you want to display in search results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Google does not want the same content in search results<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google does not want to display the same content multiple times, regardless of whether it is on the same or different websites. It will therefore display only one version and leave out the others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you copy someone else's content, there is a possibility that they won't rank better than the original one. If you have duplicates within your own site, Google will also display only one version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Can lead to the display of an unwanted URL<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google is trying to determine which URL is canonical. Although it usually shows the best version, it may not be the URL you want. Sometimes it can show long and less clear URLs as canonical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to check duplicated content<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To detect duplicate content, you can use specialized SEO tools. If you do not have them, open the page you suspect to be a duplicate and copy the unique part of the text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then enter the operator of the site in Google: followed by your domain (e.g. site:yourdomain.com). Determine canonical URL<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is recommended that you declare the desired URL as canonical. Nevertheless, Google uses multiple signals to determine the canonical version, so this is not an absolute guarantee, but it is a powerful signal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Use 301 redirects<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have changed the structure or format of URLs, set 301 redirects from old URLs to new ones. This is a strong signal that the new URL should be canonical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Add URL to sitemap<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Add the desired URL to the sitemap. If you don't have one, create one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Use consistent internal connectivity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ensure that the internal link format is consistent. If you want yourdomain.com to be used instead of www.yourdomain.com, then link internally using the desired URL format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Provide feedback links<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you allow others to repost your content, ask them to include a feedback link to your site. If someone copies content without permission, it may not be possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google states that it has systems for recognizing the source of content, so there is usually no need to worry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you still notice that someone else's content ranks better than yours, check the robots.txt file to make sure you haven't blocked Google. Also check sitemap and site availability and compliance with Google Search Essentials guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google emphasizes that you should not block duplicate URLs through the robots.txt file because then Google will not be able to index these URLs and will treat them as separate content.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u0160to je duplicirani sadr\u017eaj?
