Hosting and domain are indispensable terms when doing anything with websites. We will try to briefly explain what is and what are the essential parameters when choosing a domain and hosting, but also what is the main difference between a domain and hosting. In the context of the Internet and computer science, domain refers to a specific subset of the Internet with a unique address<\/strong> used to identify specific entities or resources. Domains are essential for web navigation as they provide a readable way to access websites and services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is a domain?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first and basic thing that can be seen on the website is its name, but also the extension behind the domain name. A domain name is something that is the identity of a website and each page has a unique name. Unlike some social networks where it is possible that two or more people have the same name, this is not possible with websites. Each website has a unique name. https:\/\/www.oberlo.com\/ecommerce-wiki\/domain-name<\/a>. Domain is essentially a name corresponding to the IP address<\/strong>, the numeric code assigned to each device connected to a computer network. Domains make it easier for users to access websites without having to remember complex numerical addresses. For example, instead of typing \u201c192.0.2.1,\u201d users can simply enter \u201cexample.com\u201d in their web browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Domains are structured in a hierarchical way and consist of different levels. The main components include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Top-Level Domain (TLD):<\/strong> This is the last part of the domain name, which appears after the final point. Common TLDs include .com, .org, .net, and national TLDs such as .hr or .de.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Level 2 domain (Second-Level Domain \u2013 SLD):<\/strong> This is the part of the domain name that comes before the TLD. For example, in \u201cexample.com,\u201d \u201cexample\u201d is SLD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Subdomain:<\/strong> This is an optional part of the domain that can be added before the SLD. For example, \u201cblog.example.com\u201d has \u201cblog\u201d as subdomain of \u201cexample.com\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n

The first step and choosing a name gives many a headache, but you need to know a few important laws when choosing a domain name because a well-chosen name can certainly help a better page ranking when searching. This is a psychological element, but also how Google ranks names that are longer, shorter, when they have dashes, numbers, etc. We will give you some tips from years of experience and knowing how Google ranks pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The domain name must be kept as short as possible.<\/strong> The reasons? First, Google likes when names are shorter, which means that the shade of pages with a shorter name will be better ranked than a page with a longer name. Second, people better remember shorter names. And you want them to remember you, don't you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avoid dashes in the name.<\/strong> The reason? You won't believe it, but 18% People don't know how to find a dash on keyboards or computers or cell phones. And then when they want to write your name, after a few seconds of looking for a dash, they give up. And you don't want that. If you already use dashes, use a dash in the middle, not the bottom line. The reason? 26% People don't know how to find the bottom line on a computer or cell phone keyboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do not use more than one dash<\/strong> in the domain name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avoid combinations of letters and numbers<\/strong> in the domain name. The reason? This is a trend from the English-speaking world where many words are replaced by numbers that sound like that word. Reading the domain name of such a site is not a problem, but writing it is very much because in our country it does not exist in the writing culture. And you'll have an additional problem. Imagine when someone asks you: What's your page name? Well, he'll take you five minutes to explain to him that he writes in numbers and what in letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next thing that is important in a domain name is the extension behind the name<\/strong>, That's the point and something behind it. These extensions do not differ technologically, but they do have a domain experience. So, if you are working on a website for a company that operates in Croatia and some external countries, then it is good to use the .hr domain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But if you are dealing with renting apartments where clicking on the site is primarily in foreign countries, then it is more appropriate to have a .com domain. In addition to suitability, when conducting an external search to some knowledge, the .com apartment page that is being searched in, say, Sweden will still be slightly better ranked than the same .hr-domain site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is another difference in extensions and that is that domain prices with different extensions are different. From several hundred kn per year to a free .hr domain that is free only for legal and physical entities that have a registered activity. Of course, as soon as it is free there is a handle, and the handle is that the domain name must be either the same or very similar to the name of the registered activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These domain extensions have a lot, so we will list most of them: .hr, .com, .net, .eu, .org, .info, .biz, .name, .tv, .biz, .name, .ws, .us, .com.hr, .mobi, .tel, etc.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosting is simply said, the place where your site is held. Of course, these are servers that are very often in cloud technology and your site is not physically located in one place because in digital technology this works completely differently. Of course, hosting is not the only factor that allows you to quickly open a website, but good hosting is a prerequisite for good web functionality. There are several types of hosting services, and each of them is tailored to different needs and requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Shared Hosting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In shared hosting, multiple websites share the same server resources. This is a cost-effective option, ideal for small businesses and personal websites. However, as resources are shared, performance can be impaired if one website has high traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Dedicated Hosting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Cloud hosting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
